On the occasion of World Environment Day, UNEP joined hands with Parmarth Ashram, Rishikesh, (a faith based organisation) to spread mass public awareness on the issue of single‑use plastics (SUPs) and their sustainable alternatives. The event was convened at Parmarth Niketan and brought together an extraordinary panel of leaders from government, faith, spirituality, and the film industry, underscoring the collective resolve to address plastics pollution. The gathering drew an audience of nearly 7,000 participants, where UNEP delivered specific messages on reducing SUPs and promoting viable alternatives. The UNEP team also actively participated in a plastics cleaning drive along the banks of the river Ganga, symbolizing the integration of awareness with action. This initiative not only amplified the urgency of tackling SUPs but also demonstrated the power of multi‑stakeholder collaboration—bridging policy, spirituality, and popular culture to inspire behavioural change.
