Commissioning of Pilots for reducing plastic pollution in Munger

In collaboration with Munger Municipal Corporation, UNEP supported its implementing partner Chintan to commission three pilots in Munger in January 2025. These pilots focussed on addressing the issues related to the use of plastics carry bags, and disposable plastics cutleries, and presence of multi-layered plastics in the waste streams. The pilots commissioned included distribution and promotion of reusable cloth bags, reusable steel utensil bank, and converting plastics waste into useful items such as benches. These pilots aim to demonstrate practical approaches that can be replicated across the state. The pilots aimed not only to reduce the environmental impact of plastic waste but also inspire behavioural changes and build a foundation for sustainable urban development.
