On the occasion of International Coastal Cleanup Day 2023, a capacity-building workshop on microplastics and persistent organic pollutants sampling was conducted at the Cauvery River in Trichy as part of the India-Norway cooperation project on capacity building for reducing plastic and chemical pollution in India (INOPOL). The workshop was conducted by REACH, SRMIST and the Norsk institutt for vannforskning (NIVA). Project partners include Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Toxics Link and Mu Gamma Consultants Pvt. Ltd.
Workshop participants included government Organisations of Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and Tamil Nadu Green Climate Company as well as research scholars and students. Sampling of water for detection and quantification of microplastics, macroplastics as well as organic pollutants was demonstrated and discussed.
