Workshop for Promoting Sustainable Practices: Waste Segregation, Single-Use Plastic Ban, and Alternatives

UNEP with its partner Chintan, organized a capacity-building workshop on 6^th December 2024 at the Municipal Corporation Hall, Munger, focusing on sustainable waste practices. The training brought together 80 officials and staff from the Nagar Nigam to strengthen their understanding of effective waste management and segregation. Discussions included the impacts of Single-Use Plastics (SUPs), relevant regulations, and compliance measures. Participants explored sustainable alternatives, urban waste reduction strategies, and proper disposal mechanisms. The workshop also highlighted the role of municipal bodies in driving implementation and community behaviour change. The training sessions included a field visit to the waste dump yard in Munger where multi-layered plastic packaging items were segregated out from the waste dump site and about 300 kgs were sent to the recycler for converting it into benches.
