India’s current and potential MSW use in RDF production

OPTOCE article in International Cement Review October 2020: India’s current and potential MSW use in RDF production. Annual municipal solid waste (MSW) generation in India is estimated to be 62Mt (urban) to >275Mt (pan India), which is projected to increase with the country’s growing population, urbanisation and changing consumption patterns. To achieve a thermal substitution rate (TSR) of 25 per cent by 2025 in the Indian cement industry, more than 50 per cent of the alternative fuel (AF) mix will be refuse-derived fuel (RDF) produced from MSW.
